It is not surprising that Thailand is one of the most popular destinations in all of South-East Asia. Perfect beaches, friendly locals, amazing food, great value and an unique untouched culture that evolved thousands of years ago. Away from the bustling city of Bangkok, destinations such as Chang Mai, Phuket and Phi Phi Islands are the top of many bucket-lists. Nonetheless Koh Samui, is an option I would highly recommend considering.
One of many beaches in Koh Samui
Koh Samui was originally a fishing village, but in more recent years has evolved into a luxury getaway destination. On first appearances of the island is a tropical, humid and relaxed with an abundance of motorcycles and taxis. There are a number of top end resorts, many of which back onto pristine beaches.

For food options there many unique and tasty dishes that are both healthy and delicious. Our group particularly enjoyed “Little Boat Seafood restaurant” which served spicy Thai seafood, and “The Hut Café” within Fisherman’s Village. Another more expensive option is “Saffron at Banyan Tree Samui”. The journey to the restaurant involved taking an open-air taxi up the mountain. It is a perfect romantic destination looking over all of the island and serves a unique combination of local food in a Thai-infused tapas.

For those on the adventurous side, I would recommend checking out: Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park, Hin Ta & Hin Yai rocks, The Secret Buddha Garden, Fisherman’s Village, Samui Elephant Enclosure and the numerous temples.

The real character of the island is displayed within the shops and markets of the street. The locals are friendly and welcoming. There are unique and exotic food options within convenience stores, not to mention cheap beer, water and all the other essentials.
